What are those letters after the names of insurance professionals?

AAI  -  Accredited Advisor In Insurance

Designation offered by the Insurance Institute of America (CPCU/IIAA) that stresses the production side of insurance, with study in personal and commercial property and liability contracts, sales and agency management.

 

AIAF  -  Associate In Insurance Accounting & Finance

Designation offered by the Insurance Institute of America (CPCI/IIAA) will provide you with an understanding of practices, principles, and procedures used to prepare insurer financial statements to comply with the requirements of the NAIC and other regulatory bodies. This course benefits not only those who prepare these statements but also those who use information contained in these statements for management or assessment of insurer performance.

 

AIC  -  Associate In Claims

Designation offered by the Insurance Institute of America (CPCU/IIAA).  Earning the AIC designation can improve your technical claim handling abilities as well as your communication and negotiation skills. You can take the standard multiline approach, which covers personal lines as well as commercial lines property and liability, or you can choose among four specialty paths if one of them would better suit your career needs. 

 

AIM  -  Associate In Management

Earning the AIM designation can increase your confidence as you manage direct reports, as well as increase your credibility with those in senior level positions. The AIM program includes human resource management, analysis of current business issues, and general management principles and practices. The courses in this program are best suited for mid-level managers.  This designation is offered by the Insurance Institute of America (CPCU/IIAA).

 

AIS  -  Associate In Insurance Services

Enhanced customer focus will help you to attract and keep clients. No matter what your area of specialty is, you and your organization can benefit from a basic understanding of continuous improvement principles.   This designation is offered by the Insurance Institute of America (CPCU/IIAA).

 

AMIM  -  Associate in Marine Insurance Management

Offered by the Insurance Institute of America (CPCI/IIAA) this broad-based program is structured to allow you to improve your knowledge of marine insurance while acquiring the wider foundation needed for career advancement. The courses that make up AMIM provide you with practical knowledge so you can do your current job better, now.  This program was developed with the assistance of the Inland Marine Underwriters Association and the American Institute of Marine Underwriters.

 

ARM  -  Associate In Risk Management

Courses in this program deal with identification and evaluation of exposures to both accidental losses and business risks, analysis of risk control and financing techniques for each exposure, selection of the most effective risk management alternatives and ways to implement and monitor selected risk control and risk financing techniques.  The ARM program is offered through the Insurance Institute of America (CPCU/IIAA) 

 

AU  -  Associate In Commercial Underwriting

Offered through the Insurance Institute of America (CPCU/IIAA), the AU designation program will complement the underwriting skills you have learned on the job. You will learn about helpful information resources and options available to commercial underwriters. You will also learn a thought process to guide you as you write accounts and consider coverage questions. If you are a new underwriter, AU will give you a solid foundation in good underwriting practices. If you are a veteran, AU will offer you a fresh perspective.

 

CIC  -  Certified Insurance Counselor

Offered by The National Alliance for Insurance Education & Research, the CIC program has been the industry's premier, proven source for practical, real-world education since 1969.  You will cover important aspects in personal lines, commercial casualty, commercial property, life and health and agency management.   

 

CISR  -  Certified Insurance Service Representative

The National Alliance for Insurance Education & Research offers this practical program, stressing methods to minimize E&O claim possibilities and the understanding and analysis of risks and exposures.  The curriculum is tailored to your region making this a program a superior education opportunity. 

 

CLCS  -  Commercial Lines Coverage Specialist

Created with the learning needs of new insurance producers, agents, managers, CSRs and corporate staff in mind, the CLCS is the most complete professional learning program available for industry professionals seeking to master the subject of commercial lines coverage.  Sponsored by The National Underwriter Company, students completing the CLCS program have demonstrated extensive knowledge in a critical functional area of property and casualty insurance practice-insurance policy coverage-and will have applied that knowledge in real-life case study exercises.

 

CLU  -  Chartered Life Underwriter

The CLU course of study helps advance your career by providing in-depth knowledge on the insurance needs of individuals, business owners and professional clients.  The courses needed to earn this professional designation are offered through The American College

 

CPCU  -  Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter

CPCU is respected as the premier designation in property-casualty insurance. Holding this designation immediately identifies you as a knowledgeable and dedicated professional.  Offered by The Insurance Institute of America (CPCU/IIAA), the program provides a broad understanding of the property-casualty industry focusing on the legal, financial and operational aspect of risk management and insurance, as well as on financial services.  The CPCU program consists of eleven courses. You must pass 8 courses to earn the CPCU designation. All candidates must complete the five foundation courses. In addition, you select either the commercial or personal insurance concentration to complete the program.

 

CRM  -  Certified Risk Manager

This designation is offered by The National Alliance for Insurance Education & Research.  The five courses will provide you with an in-depth knowledge about today’s highest priorities – identifying, analyzing, controlling, financing, and administering operational risks – as well as political risks, catastrophic loss exposures, third-party exposures, fiduciary exposures, employee injury exposures, juridical risks, legal risks, and more – whether insurable or not. The skills you learn will make you more proactive and valuable to your organization in discovering how risks can interrupt the flow of earnings and how to protect against it.

 

PLCS  -  Personal Lines Coverage Specialist
